Born Again Furnishings

Image
We have been students of Danish and Scandinavian furniture for 41 years. Recently, we researched what, where, and how much did some of the great pieces of furniture we sold cost today. We are proud that our furniture retains much of it's value. And in some cases actually increases in value! Over at Uniques & Antiques Inc ., 2500 Market Street in Aston PA - they recently sold some of our famous pieces: A Dane Decor H. P. Hansen Danish Teak Sideboard sold for $1,955. An amazing bargain for handmade furniture today. We sold this in 1976 for $1,499. Four Koefoed Dining chairs and a Danish Teak refectory dining table sold for $1,265. Originally it was $1999 at dane decor in 1977. That' s over 30 years of use for just over $600. Stop in today and browse our huge selection of Danish and Scandinavian furniture . A beautiful investment.

DaVinci Last Supper by design

Image
We’ve all seen Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper so many times that you probably no longer notice the details anymore. Ghigos Ideas reached out to 13 designers to look at it in a new way. The designers were asked to look beyond what everyone sees and to imagine the 13 seats that Jesus and the Apostles sat in during that famous scene. A Red-tailed Hawk flew into our Downingtown showroom! Luckily, Mark H. was there to get a spare sheet out and carefully grabbed the Hawk and let the Bird of Prey out safely.

Serious about comfort

Image
Have a bad back? This article from the New York Times reveals the findings of a study just published in the New England Journal of Medicine. It found that steroid injections provided no significant relief for serious back pain sufferers. We are not medical experts, but we would offer that a comfortable chair and gel mattress might provide some back pain relief. Read the article and check out our Stressless Recliners from Norway and our Nexgel Mattress from Canada. We are all about serious comfort.  http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/07/03/health/treatment-for-back-pain-provides-little-help-study.html?_r=0#_=_

The eyes have it!

Image
The hinges of these glasses by Japanese studio Nendo use magnets rather than screws to allow users to detach, mix and match arms in a range of different colours. Nendo replaced the traditional screw hinges commonly used for eyewear with magnets, so the frames are more flexible and harder to break. "The temples release smoothly when pulled from the side, so that users can create different looks by purchasing temples in different colours and materials," said the studio. The Magne-hinge glasses were shown as part of Nendo's solo exhibition in Milan's Brera district earlier the month. Disk-shaped magnets in the arms clip neatly between two parts with a similar shape on either side of the lens frames. A selection of coloured arms, including black, metallic, tortoiseshell and blue options, can be swapped in and out to customise the frames and coordinate the accessories with different outfits.

For your subconscious mind: the art of Alexandra Ethel

Image
We love collage artists. Recently we came across Alexandra Ethell , an artist from Melbourne who creates quirky and dreamy collages, freezing impossible moments with so much beauty and elegance. She says that she is a self diagnosed insomniac who started creating these "moments". We assume she is just dreaming while awake while craftfully sharing those dreams with the world. Let's just hope that the insomnia continues. Also, her art is available at very affordable prices!

To a tea!

Image
There’s nothing like a hot cup of tea to bring peace and relaxation. There is one minor annoyance though – getting every inch of tasty tea out of that tea bag, and well, getting rid of it. The Tea Cup SlingsHOT by Samir Sufi solves both those problems at once. It has a little funnel for you to squeeze every last drop of tea out of the bag without dripping everywhere. It also acts as a place for your old tea bag to rest while you sip your tea.
