Lola

Image
Inspired by science and natural forms, Lola Lely’s signature aesthetic is achieved by experimenting with processes such as patination and marbling. We love! Video>>

Jenny from the block

Image
Tel Aviv-based artist and children’s book illustrator, Jenny Meilihove . Meilihove, who moved to Israel when she was a kid, studied at Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design in Jerusalem, and today, displays her naive, imaginative world, where anything is possible, through her pictures. These portraits—who appear to be of our favorite scarf-maker Yokoo Gibraan —made us smile.

Lego my iPad!

Image
If you’re close to our age, you probably remember the classic 1984 Apple Macintosh computer with the built-in screen. We love this LEGO interpretation from Oslo-based Jason Kinsella and Charlotte Bakken ...a classic with a modern twist!

For the birds!

Image
Birds continually take off and land in new places, always seeing the world from an enviable perspective and one that all travelers seek. To acknowledge the journey, Airbnb commissioned five artists to create birdhouse models (Birdbnb ) of some of their most interesting listings for rent around the world. The result is 50 birdhouses that were strung up at the “Tree of Life” in New Orleans’ Audobon Park where they shot this “Home to You” video! Thanks Design Milk.

Want a sandwich?

Image
Would you believe that an adult bicycle could arrive flat-packed, be easily assembled by you at home, and ready to be ridden in just a short matter of time? Basten Leijh has done just that with Sandwichbike , an innovative bicycle made of wood that he designed and developed. Sandwichbike’s unique frame is made of two weatherproof beech wood panels that will stand up in less than ideal weather conditions. The wood comes from sustainably managed forests in Germany as the company takes environmental concerns seriously. Carefully milled aluminum parts are what holds the two wooden panels together, turning all of the individual pieces into a Sandwichbike. With the handy tool that’s included, you can assemble your bicycle in less than an hour. “If you can make a sandwich, you can make a Sandwichbike.”

Yummy treats for the holidays!

So hot

Legendary Viennese company Carl Auböck launched brand new product in the collaboration with London-based designer and craftsman Michael Anastassiades . Anastassiades's eclectic modernist style matches with Carl Auböck's craft and design heritage pretty nicely. These brass Italic pepper mills pay tribute to the mid-century work of Carl Auböck and connects it with the ingenious Anastassiades's minimalism.

What wood you say?

Matthew Hoffman has been saying it with wood for years and he’s bringing back his What Wood You Say series with a bang. This latest edition is a framed, hand-cut piece of art featuring whatever you want to say in three-dimensional wood letters. The customizable piece begins by you picking the words and whatever colors you want to use. Hoffman then gets to work by hand drawing the words, painting them, cutting them out, finishing them, assembling them, and then mounting them in a frame. Each custom piece is made from solid mahogany and comes already framed in a ready made shadow box waiting to be hung up. VIDEO>
