The perfect look...

Image
You might know EXOvault for their superbly awesome metal and wood iPhone cases and now they’re bringing their wizardry to your face in the form of eyeglasses. Their first style is their EXO1000 Kingsland frame which are machined from solid aluminum and are just “like a spacecraft for your face.”

French designer Mathieu Lehanneur has created a glass with a stem that holds exactly one measure of alcohol for liqueur brand Ricard. Lehanneur designed the glassware primarily for bars and restaurants to enable the precise amount of Ricard 's anise-flavoured spirits to be poured. The flared stem prevents ice cubes from distorting the measurement and forming crystals that detract from the taste while permanently sitting in the liqueur. A carafe for mixers has a similar spout to the glass stem and a larger base with the same conical shape. Mathieu Lehanneur has completed a few projects recently, such as the interior of a  cafe in Paris that serves food in edible packaging and a chandelier that looks like illuminated lengths of rope .

Introducing our new Live Edge Furniture!

Image
James (or Hank as we call him) is one of the owners of Dane Decor. Hank has been making our Live Edge wood furniture for us for about three years. Live edge wood is so unique because it shows a cross section slice of a tree and gives clues about its time on earth. You can see years that were dry and years that were wet. You can see when the tree was starved of sunlight (growth rings are smaller) or when the canopy was thinned either by nature or by man and the growth rings became larger. There may be evidence of disease, fire, or possibly damage by man or nature. Many of us are drawn to nature in some way and having a slice of a tree as part of our daily world serves as a nice contrast to the high-speed, high-tech world we live in. What could be more inspiring and uplifting than dining or meeting around an actual cross section of a tree? We have over a dozen pieces of Live edge furniture in each of our showrooms. The beauty is that no two are the same. Stop in soon and you will be

Wood wonderful wood

Weighing in at nearly 2.5 ton, Hugo França 's new 'casulo' (cocoon) sculptures are awe-inspiring in scale and ambition. The artist uses hardwoods indigenous to his native Brazil to create his monumental organic artworks and sinuous furniture, currently on show at R 20th Century Gallery in New York, crafting each piece from ancient 'pequi', a gigantic oleaginous tree that averages 45m and can live 1,000 years. A committed naturalist, França is meticulous about the way he sources the wood, traveling through the forests, sometimes for days, in search of solid trees that have been felled or died naturally. Each casulo is then 'refined': carved, smoothed and shaped from the trunk or roots to create an organic space of retreat and contemplation. When finished, it inspires what he describes as 'a bonding experience between man and nature'. He encourages people to get inside the sculptures, 'as if they were a part of it'. Thanks Wal

Thanks from everyone at dane decor to all our wonderful customers who helped us gather cans for our local food bank! We think that the small things DO make a difference. This time of the year we look forward to the coming holidays and are thankful for all the wonderful things we have. Maybe this small gesture will help brighten the day of someone less fortunate at this time.

Take a breath.

Image
This teapot, called Take Breath, made of ceramic and wood, it definitely has a simple, soothing effect on the eyes, which echoes the very beverage that it has been designed to serve. Designed by Pinyen Creative , a Taiwan-based design company, this tea pot will be shown along with some of their other work at  Fresh Taiwan exhibition during Tent London .

Jaws. From Denmark.

Image
Flip on the light and you’ll see: There’s nothing threatening about this set of Jaws. Painted metal strips form a colorful cage around the bulb, giving a playful punch to the classic floor lamp. Designed by our good friend, designer Benny Frandsen. We have a limited number in stock. Stop in and experience what's new at dane decor.
