Birds continually take off and land in new places, always seeing the world from an enviable perspective and one that all travelers seek. To acknowledge the journey, Airbnb commissioned five artists to create birdhouse models (Birdbnb ) of some of their most interesting listings for rent around the world. The result is 50 birdhouses that were strung up at the “Tree of Life” in New Orleans’ Audobon Park where they shot this “Home to You” video! Thanks Design Milk.

Who says modern can’t have a sense of humor or a dash of whimsy? Certainly not Bill Playso, the head of the Australian lifestyle brand Playso . He designed the Koo Koo mailbox in a stylized shape of a bird to bring some fun to something that’s normally relegated to simply functional. Working with industrial designer Justin Hutchinson, the avian themed mail holder came to life, making it designed and manufactured in their homeland of Australia. We love how the wing is open to hold magazines and larger mail!

The goal was to provide them with the the spectacular views of the natural landscape. The roof between the two containers is made from the scrap metal. Copenhagen-based architecture firm arcgency created the “WFH House” in Wuxi, China, out of three stacked shipping containers. Upcycled steel shipping containers were used for a steel frame, which was then clad with a sustainable bamboo facade. The home includes a rainwater collection system, solar cell-clad green roof, skylights, and permeable paving. Modern House Numbers was started in 2008 by two young architects who wanted to make a personal statement on their own home without breaking the bank.

Seems like we are not the only ones with an indoor tree. House of the Tree, located at the 48th and 49th floor of a high-end residential tower in Shenzhen, China, is a penthouse designed by Kokaistudios with the concept of “living between the city and the nature” offers a modern lifestyle with luxury and relaxation. A large-scale of architectural modification applied to the original layout of the penthouse. The end product is a vision of luxury living with timeless-chic taste; defined by a connection to nature, a connection to fine materials and craftsmanship, while meeting the demands of a modern way of living. Hill House is located in Melbourne, Australia, where lots are narrow, requiring architects to think outside the box — and the team at Andrew Maynard Architects did just that. The owners of the home wished for a modern update that included reorienting the entryway and an outdoor space that actually got sunlight. The also needed the home to provide adequate space for their three growing children. The house features a new, cantilevered structure over the hidden lower level, which happens to be behind the artificial hill. Now they have a cliff and a yard, although synthetic, to play on and one that doesn’t need to be mowed!
