Patrick McDonough’s lawn chairs are not meant for sitting. And if they begin to seem functional, well, it’s all pretend. The sculptures offer the formal concepts of lawn chairs without actually closing the deal — legs and armrests have gone missing, for starters, and the works themselves are decidedly non functional. Instead of functionality McDonough is interested in their allusions to an American iconography of leisure. Take a look at them and it’s not difficult to imagine the smell of freshly cut grass or the skyward boom of summertime fireworks. It’s part of what the artist describes as his overarching interest in the aesthetics of free time. But there’s something else that’s also at work here; each piece has a significant stake in pure color, in hard edged geometry, and in the rectangular chromatic plane. It Wasn't Meant To End Like This, an enormous mechanical digger that looks like it has buried itself under 300 tons of rubble and trash, is the latest installation at Sculpture by the Sea festival in Aarhus , Denmark, from the Glue Society.  The festival is free to the public biennial exhibition of sculptures from across the world staged on the public lawns, beach and forests bordering Aarhus Bay, Denmark.

We love collage artists. Recently we came across Alexandra Ethell , an artist from Melbourne who creates quirky and dreamy collages, freezing impossible moments with so much beauty and elegance. She says that she is a self diagnosed insomniac who started creating these "moments". We assume she is just dreaming while awake while craftfully sharing those dreams with the world. Let's just hope that the insomnia continues. Also, her art is available at very affordable prices!

Utopia & Utility was founded in 2012 by siblings Pia and Moritz Wustenberg. The pair creates handmade collections of gorgeous vessels that mix glass with wood, metals, and pottery. The components stack together to form tabletop sculptures that are simply breathtaking. Three separate crafts are used during the process to complete each piece. Stacking Vessels Small  are made up of two separate containers that combine blown glass and turned, natural edge wood.     Stacking Vessels Copper and Stacking Vessels Brass are made up of blown studio glass and spun copper or brass as the base. Transformed Stacking Vessels appear symmetrical from the front but when turned they become asymmetrical. The Large Stacking Vessels are made as limited editions with 65cm high glass, copper/brass, and wood. Adding Raku ceramics to the mix, the Raku Stacking Vessels have an uneven and crackled finish making each one unique.
